A collection · for the thankful heart
Gratitude is not a personality trait some people are born with; it is a practice the heart learns. Paul ties it to the will, not the weather: "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Notice he says in all circumstances, not for all of them — thanksgiving runs alongside hard things, not only easy ones. Habakkuk shows what that looks like at the bottom: even if the fig tree does not bud and the fields fail, "yet I will rejoice in the Lord" (Habakkuk 3:17-18), because the joy is anchored in God, not the harvest. And here is the part that turns gratitude into worship: while you are learning to give thanks for Him, He is already rejoicing over you "with singing" (Zephaniah 3:17). These devotionals are for re-training tired eyes to see the gifts again. Read one, name three specific things out loud, and let thanks become the first language of your day.
