Four Steps, One Healing

Hello, my friend… so glad you're with me today. This is By God's Call — day 125, Four Steps, One Healing.

"if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.

God spoke these words to Solomon at night, after the dedication of the temple — after the glory that had just filled God's house so thickly the priests couldn't even stand. And in that intimate moment, God doesn't promise the nation will never suffer. He promises something deeper: a way back, whenever His people wander.

Notice the structure of this verse. Four verbs, in order, and the order matters.

The first is: humble themselves. God doesn't start by demanding we fix everything ourselves. He starts by asking us to bow low. To admit we never had the control we thought we had. Humility is the entry point — without it, nothing that follows has any root.

The second is: pray. Humility that never becomes speech stays just a passing feeling. Prayer is taking that humility and turning it into an actual conversation with God — saying out loud what the heart already admitted in silence.

The third — and this is the one that hits me hardest — is: seek my face. Not seek my hand. Not seek my solution. Not just seek relief from the pain. Seeking God's face is different from seeking only the answer to the problem. It's when you want God's presence more than you want the crisis resolved. It's a search for relationship, not just results.

And the fourth: turn from their wicked ways. This is the step that proves whether the first three were real. You can humble yourself in tears, pray for hours, seek God's face with total sincerity — but if you don't actually turn, if you don't change the path you were walking, the ceremony never becomes transformation. Turning is the living evidence that the humility was genuine.

And when these four steps happen together, God promises two things at once: He forgives the sin, and He heals the land. Notice He doesn't separate them. It isn't only the heart that gets restored — the circumstances do too. God's healing doesn't stay confined to the spiritual; it reaches what was broken in real life, in relationships, in the land, in the home.

So today, before breakfast, I want you to do something concrete with this. Kneel down — literally, if you can. Pray the four verbs of this verse out loud: humble yourself, pray, seek God's face, and then name — specifically, without dancing around it — one path you need to turn from today. Not tomorrow. Today.

God is promising to hear, to forgive, and to heal. The first step is yours to take.
