I Will Not Leave You

Hello, my friend… so glad you're with me today. This is By God's Call — day 10, I Will Not Leave You.

"Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Genesis 28:15.

To understand the weight of this promise, you need to see where Jacob was when he heard it. He wasn't in a temple. He wasn't at some beautiful altar, surrounded by safety. He was running. Running from his own brother, who had sworn to kill him. Running alone, with a stone for a pillow, sleeping out in the open in the middle of nowhere. Jacob had absolutely nothing in his hands — no tent, no servant, no guarantee he would even be alive tomorrow.

And it was exactly there, on that hard ground, in the most unprotected moment of his life, that God chose to show up.

Notice the first word of the promise: "I am." Not "I will be," not "I'll try to be there." I am. Present tense. God doesn't wait for Jacob to reach some safe place before making Himself known. He is already there, in the middle of the running, in the middle of the fear.

And then comes the part I want you to hold onto: "wherever you go." This promise has no fixed address. God didn't say, "I'll stay right here, in this spot, waiting for you to come back." He said: I'm going with you. Wherever you go. It doesn't matter the distance, doesn't matter how far from home, doesn't matter how many years pass — God's presence is never tied down to a map.

And it isn't just passive presence. "I will keep you." That's active protection. God isn't just watching from a distance, hoping things work out. He is guarding, watching over, defending. Like a father walking beside his child down a dangerous road, hand ready to catch him.

And there's something else beautiful in this promise: God is already speaking of the return before Jacob has even finished running away. "I will bring you back to this land." He's saying: this flight is not the end of your story. There will be a return. There will be restoration. The promise covers the whole journey out — and the journey back.

And finally, the line that seals it all with eternity: "I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." God's presence isn't for a limited time — it lasts until the promise is fully complete. He doesn't walk away halfway through. He stays until the end.

Now think about your own life, my friend. Maybe you're where Jacob was — running from something, alone, no solid ground under your feet, no idea what tomorrow holds. This promise is yours too. God is with you. He will keep you. He will bring you back to a place of peace. And He will not leave until He has finished what He started in you.

So today, before you leave the house, I want you to say these words out loud, as if God were speaking them directly to you — because He is: "I am with you and will keep you wherever you go." Carry that with you all day. Into every meeting, every commute, every hard conversation.
