He Is Faithful

Hello, my friend… so glad you're with me today. This is By God's Call — day 357, He Is Faithful.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9.

John has just written, a few verses earlier, that God is light and that we are called to walk in that light, not hidden in darkness. And that's exactly where this verse steps in. Because walking in the light doesn't mean never sinning — it means never hiding when it happens.

Notice how simple the condition is: "if we confess." Not: if we punish ourselves enough. Not: if we stew in guilt for days. Not: if we manage to fix everything ourselves before coming to God. It's just this: confess. Admit the truth, with an open heart, before Him.

So many people live in a kind of emotional purgatory, thinking they need to suffer for a while before they deserve forgiveness. But the text doesn't mention merit at all. It talks about faithfulness — God's faithfulness.

Look at the two words John chooses: faithful and just. Faithful, because God always keeps what He promises — He isn't going to change His mind tomorrow about what He forgave today. And just — this is the part people often forget. God doesn't forgive by pretending the sin didn't matter. He forgives because the debt has already been paid, at the cross, by Jesus. Forgiveness isn't God relaxing the standard; it's God being perfectly just, because someone else settled the account.

And there's more: the verse doesn't promise only forgiveness. It promises cleansing. "Cleanse us from all unrighteousness." All. Not ninety percent. Not just the easy part to forgive. All. God doesn't leave stains swept under the rug — He cleans completely.

I need to ask you something, gently: is there something you already confessed to God, days, months, maybe years ago — that you still carry as if it was never truly forgiven? That shame that keeps resurfacing, that voice that keeps replaying the mistake in your head — it isn't coming from God. He has already spoken. Forgiven. Cleansed. Closed.

Maybe the problem isn't that God hasn't forgiven you. Maybe the problem is that you haven't yet received what He already offered.

So today, I want to invite you to do something simple: confess out loud, before God, one specific thing you've been avoiding bringing to Him — not in vague terms, but naming the actual thing. And then, receive His answer exactly as it's written: faithful, just, forgiveness, complete cleansing.

You don't have to carry this any longer.
