Day 216 · Tuesday, August 4
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."MATTHEW 11:28
Hello, my friend… so glad you're with me today. This is By God's Call — day 216, Come to Me.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28.
Let that land for a second. Don't rush past it. Because Jesus is not making a general announcement — He is speaking to you. Right now. Today. With exactly the weight you woke up carrying.
And notice how He begins: "Come." Not "sort yourself out first." Not "wait until you feel ready." Not "get it together and then come." Come. As you are. With the weariness you've been trying to hide, with the responsibilities that never seem to let up, with that ache you don't even have words for anymore — Jesus sees all of it. He does not brush it aside. He does not say "it's not that bad." He names it: labor and heavy laden. He knows the weight you carry, and because of that — especially because of that — He calls.
Now listen closely to what He promises: "I will give you rest." Not maybe. Not if you earn it. I will give you rest. That is an active promise, a sure one, made by the One who did not merely talk about carrying burdens — He carried the cross. He knows what real weight feels like. And it is that same Jesus who says: bring it to me.
But understand what kind of rest this is. It is not a vacation. It is not the absence of trouble. It is not a life without storms. It is a presence inside the storm. It is a fixed point when everything around you is shaking. It is Christ holding your soul steady — not removing you from the difficulty, but being the solid ground beneath your feet as you walk through it. This rest does not depend on your circumstances changing first. It is already available. Right now.
But there is something you have to do. And Jesus makes it plain in the very invitation: come. There is movement in that word. His rest is not given to those who sit still waiting to feel something. It is given to those who move toward Him — even without energy, even without the right words, even when faith feels thin and small. The act of drawing near is already faith. Arriving before Him with the weight is already prayer.
So today, do this: before breakfast, sit down. Two minutes of quiet. And whisper to Jesus — no need for eloquence, no need for it to sound right — whisper the name of the one thing weighing on you most right now. That one thing. Give it a name. And ask Him to carry it today. Not tomorrow. Today. You are coming to Him just as you are, and that is exactly what the invitation asks.
Stay close to God. Pray — then act. I'll see you tomorrow, my friend.
