Day 187 · Monday, July 6
"Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.""JOHN 6:35
Hello, my friend… so glad you're with me today. This is By God's Call — day 187, Bread That Satisfies.
Let these words from Jesus settle over you slowly — "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35.
Bread. That was His word. Not gold. Not power. Not a throne. Bread. The simplest, most necessary, most human thing there is. Something every table understands. And with that word — bread — Jesus described Himself. Because He did not come to be a beautiful idea sitting behind glass, too high to touch. He came to be sustenance. Real. Daily. For a hunger that is absolutely real.
And you know what I'm talking about, don't you? There is a hunger that breakfast cannot touch. There is a thirst that no glass of water can reach. It is the hunger for meaning — for waking up in the morning and knowing why you are here. It is the hunger for belonging — for being truly known, not just seen from a distance. It is the hunger to be loved without having to earn it first. Jesus saw that hunger in the crowd that followed Him. He sees it in you today. And that is precisely the hunger He promises to satisfy.
Look at what He says: "whoever comes to me." Not whoever has already arrived perfect. Not whoever has it all figured out. Whoever is moving toward Him — with doubts, with weariness, with a half-broken heart. The movement itself is already faith. Just turning your face toward Him already counts.
And the promise covers everything. Jesus joins hunger and thirst in one verse — because He wants to say this plainly: there is no need of yours that falls outside of what He offers. This is not a temporary relief. This is a spring that keeps flowing. Day after day. Season after season. Even through the longest winters your soul has ever known.
But this bread was not merely promised. It was given. On the cross, the body of Jesus was broken — literally broken — so that your spiritual hunger would find its final, permanent answer. The bread of life cost Him everything. He is not offering you something cheap. He is offering you Himself.
And so — today — before anything else, before breakfast, before your phone, before the noise of the day rushes in — open John 6:35 and read that verse out loud. Like you are hearing it for the very first time. Because maybe you are. And then, in just one sentence — simple, honest, yours — tell Jesus what hunger you are carrying into this day. It does not have to be eloquent. It does not have to be long. It just has to be true. And let Him be your bread.
Stay close to God. Pray — then act. I'll see you tomorrow, my friend.
